Two new hospitals announced for Leeds

Leeds is to get two new hospitals with the city's NHS Trust being one of six to be given a share of £2.7 billion of brand new funding.

The new hospitals, one for adults and the other for children, will be built at Leeds General Infirmary.

The adults' hospital will have new theatres for day case procedures and added critical care facilities while the children's hospital will bring together services for children and young people in a building purpose-built for theirneeds – a first for Leeds.

The Chief Executive of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Julian Hartley,described the announcement as “wonderful news.”

Linda Pollard, Chair of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said it was a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Leeds. The Trust had a number of stages to complete before it could start building the newhospitals, but expected the build to take around three years once underway.
