Historic postcard written by author DH Lawrence after visiting Shirebrook to go under hammer

A postcard written by author and poet DH Lawrence during a visit to a town in Derbyshire more than 100 years ago is to be auctioned.

He sent the postcard from Shirebrook in 1911.

It seems he was far from impressed with the town, as in his message he described it as 'a most hideous place'.

It will go under the hammer at Hanson's Library Auction tomorrow.
