Will skies be clear enough to see the partial lunar eclipse this evening?

Moonrise at Filey Credit: PATRICIA MORRIS

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 and the mission to the moon. This evening there will be a partial lunar eclipse of the full moon.I'm expecting cloud to break up nicely this evening so the partial lunar eclipse should be visible and the maximum coverage of the moon by the Earth's shadow (around 60%) will be around 10.30 pm.By definition a lunar eclipse can only happen at full moon, so as soon as the sun sets behind the north-western horizon this evening, look to the big old moon rising on the south-eastern horizon and you should see it partially darkened by the earth's shadow.

Good luck
