Rest of today:Outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain will turn more showery with some warm sunny spells developing. The showers will turn heavy, giving some places slow-moving torrential downpours with a risk of thunder. Turning slowly drier through the evening. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Tonight:Showers mostly dying out by midnight with clear spells giving a slightly cooler, fresher night. Some mist forming for a time, mainly affecting the Pennines. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Friday:Early morning mist soon clearing to a bright day with sunny spells and showers, some heavy with risk of thunder. Some parts may see heavy showers lasting into the evening. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:Chance of afternoon showers on Saturday with some sunshine. Sunday and Monday mostly dry with warm sunshine inland but often cooler near the coast under cloudier skies.
