Father's devastation after former Hull FC player Jansin Turgut falls from Ibiza car park
The father of former Hull FC player Jansin Turgut says his life has 'collapsed' after his son fell from the third floor of a car park in Ibiza.
The 23-year-old remains in an induced coma after the incident a week ago.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident a week ago are still unclear.
But Turgut's father Kemal said his son had called his mother shortly before he fell.
Mr Turgut said: "He said 'mum I love you. I am sitting on the balcony' and then switched his phone off.
"She rang me straight away. I tried to ring him but got no response."
Turgut was a back row forward with Hull until 2018.
He had gone to Ibiza on holiday with a friend after being released by his latest club, Salford Red Devils, earlier this month.
His father learned of the fall after being contacted by police in Hull.
"I couldn't believe it," he said. "My life was collapsed."
It is thought Turgut has avoided brain damage, despite breaking multiple bones. But he remains on a life support machine.
There was a minute's applause at Super League's Magic Weekend at Anfield this weekend as his former club took on Huddersfield Giant.
An online appeal has raised more than £17,000 to pay for his treatment.
But Mr Turgut has not yet been able to see his son because of medical treatment he is receiving in the UK.
He said: "By the end of this month I'm going to see him and I'm going to be by his side. All I want is to see him breathe, be alive, that's all I want, and then bring him home."
