The A640 Denshaw to Huddersfield road is closed in both directions.

Posting on Facebook, the National Trust, which own the land said: "This is very sad news given how dry the moorland vegetation is."

It is the sixth fire this year on the moor and the biggest.

Meanwhile firefighters are still damping down at Ilkley Moor which has been devastated by a huge fire.

At the height of the blaze 100 were called in to help put out the flames, with residents and businesses fearing for their properties.

West Yorkshire Firefighters said the biggest concern today (Monday April 21, 2019) is the flare up of further fires due to small pockets of fire still at the scene.
