Blaze on Marsden Moor

Fire crews from across Yorkshire and Greater Manchester have battled through the night to tame a huge moorland fire.

They used beaters and leaf blowers to control the flames and managed to extinguish it by around midnight.

Two fire engines remained on the scene for the rest of the night to ensure the it was safely out.

At its height, black smoke could be seen billowing into the air from miles around and the A62 - which connects Huddersfield to Manchester - had to be closed in both directions.Large areas of grassland were left charred and smouldering by the blaze.
