Fire chiefs in South Yorkshire have provisionally approved plans to cut the number of full-time firefighters by 83.

The move has been considered as a way to meet a multi-million pound financial shortfall, and if given final approval, will see crew numbers on each fire engine cut from five to four.

In a statement, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Alex Johnson, said:

The proposals will now be consulted on by members of the public at a later date.
