Seven arrested after "reported shootings" in Mexborough

Seven people have been arrested after reports of a shooting in Mexborough.

Police were called to Hirst Gate and a 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with a suspected shotgun wound.

Shots were also fired at properties causing minor damage.

The incident happened just before 1am on Saturday 30 March. Neighbourhood teams spent Monday carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area.

Five men, aged 25, 26, 27, 30, 48 and two women, both 30, were arrested by officers on suspicion of assault and firearms offences.

Three of the men, aged 25, 27, 48 have been released under investigation.

The two other men and two women have been released on bail.

A police spokesman said: "Shots were also fired at properties on Chaucer Road and Hawthorne Crescent causing minor damage.

"Officers believe these to be a targeted incidents and enquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances."
