Refuse lorry crashes into houses in Halifax

The driver of a refuse lorry has escaped without serious injury after the vehicle hit a house and overturned in Halifax shortly before 6am this morning.

The accident caused major disruption in the town, with the A58 Leeds Road closed in both directions at Stump Cross. It also left rubbish strewn over the area. Traffic is being diverted with Calderdale Council asking motorists to find an alternative route if possible.

The driver of the lorry was helped from the cab.

One man tweeted how the accident happened in front of him and he and another person had helped the driver out of his cab.
