A temporary moon brought more visitors to Hull Minster during its two-week appearance than the number who came during the entire preceding year.

The Anglican minster welcomed approximately 225,000 visitors during 2018; of them, 82,000 came during the 'Museum of the Moon' exhibition.

The total number is more than three times the 70,000 who came during Hull's year as the 'City of Culture' in 2017.

Church leaders credit a £4.5 million rejuvenation project, completed in phases since 2016, which they claim has established the Minster as "a leading events venue".

The building, which is England's biggest parish church, was formerly called Holy Trinity Church.

It was given 'minster' status by the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, in a special ceremony in 2017.
