Coaches at rugby club near Leeds pip Gareth Southgate to prestigious national award

Coaches at a rugby club near Leeds have pipped the likes of Gareth Southgate to a prestigious national award.

The team behind the Old Otliensians, based in Otley, won the 2018 prize for 'Great Coaching Moment of the Year'. It recognised their achievements guiding the side to victory in the RFU Vase at Twickenham in May.

Kris Stafford, Stephen Quinn and Harrison Marshall were presented with the gong at the UK Coaching Awards ceremony in London on Thursday night.

Senior coaches at the club were up against England football manager Gareth Southgate and England netball head coach Tracey Neville.

Their achievement was recognised following a public vote.
