Dame Judi Dench to be honoured for "outstanding contribution" to British film

The Iris and Philomena actress, from Heworth Village in York will receive the Richard Harris Award at the British Independent Film Awards.

Judi is also known for her iconic roles such as M in James Bond films, Queen Victoria in Victoria and Abdul and Mrs Fairfax in Jane Eyre.

Previous recipients of the award include Daniel Day-Lewis, Helena Bonham Carter, Chiwetel Ejiofor and, in 2017, Vanessa Redgrave.

The award honours an actor or actress who has contributed significantly toBritish films throughout their career.

The ceremony will take place in London on December 2.
