Coastguard rescue fossil hunter after landslide
Coastguard rescue teams were called to the aid of a fossil hunter who was trapped following a landslide on the North Yorkshire coast.
The man was buried under falling rock when part of the cliff gave way at Port Mulgrave, near Staithes, last night. (October 27th).
The cliff fall was witnessed by a fisherman who went to the aid of the trapped man but he was unable to release him and called the coastguard for help.
Teams from Staithes and Whitby were sent to dig the man out and he was then airlifted by the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Humberside and taken to the James Cook Hospital. His condition is not known but not thought to be life-threatening.
HM Coastguard is warning people to take care on the North Yorkshire cliffs, saying the recent high spring tide and Northerly winds have contributed to coastal erosion.
