Civic leaders warn not to harm seagulls after bird shot by crossbow
Civic leaders on the North Yorkshire coast have warned people not to take vigilante action against seagulls after a bird was shot by a crossbow.
There have been problems in Scarborough, Whitby and Filey with people being attacked by herring gulls.
But pictures taken by a visitor, of a bird with a crossbow bolt through its breast, have prompted calls for people to stay on the right side of the law.
There is a roadshow in Scarborough today where experts are urging people not to feed the birds or leave scraps for them.
