If it's a white Christmas you're after, Jon Mitchell can tell you where to go

A white Christmas is not going to happen in Calendar-land I'm afraid. It will be mild and windy over the Christmas weekend with rain at times.

The chart above shows mild south-westerly winds for Christmas Day. The only part of the UK that is likely to see snow on the day itself will be on the top of the Scottish mountains.

Whether this is bad news or good news depends on your point of view of course, but it does mean that travelling around will be easier without the hazards of snow and ice.

A word of warning though - it is set to turn colder again from late Boxing Day.

In the meantime, have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and peaceful new year.
