Schoolgirl, 12, seriously injured after being hit by car in North Yorkshire

Police in North Yorkshire are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage after a 12-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was hit by a car in Byram near Knottingley.

The crash happened at around 3.30pm yesterday (Thursday 28 September 2017), when the girl got off her school bus on West Acres, crossed the road and was hit by a red Vauxhall Astra that failed to stop at the scene.

Officers are appealing to anyone who was in Byram and either witnessed the incident or saw a red Vauxhall Astra travelling through the village, to contact them.

In addition they would like anyone with dash-cam footage of the collision or of the Vauxhall Astra to contact them.

Police say the victim has been airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where she currently remains.

A local man in his thirties has been arrested and police were able to recover the suspect vehicle in Knottingley.

The arrested man remains in police custody.
