Council to discuss plans for new 'super prison'
Controversial plans for a new prison in East Yorkshire housing more than 1,000 inmates will be discussed by councillors today.
The 'super-prison' would be built next to Full Sutton, one of the country's existing top security jails. Local residents opposed to the plans say their village could not cope with the extra traffic.
The proposed new facility, which would take 18 to 24 months to build - and at a cost of £91 million - would include classrooms, workshops, accommodation and kitchens, with 11 buildings up to 16m high and 279 parking spaces.
The plan, from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), would cover a 21-hectare agricultural site, currently housing small areas of woodland, field hedges, ponds and ditches. It is to be considered by planners at East Riding Council this afternoon.
