Lizzie Jones to sing at Mytholmroyd Gala

Halifax opera singer Lizzie Jones is special guest at today's Mytholmroyd Gala.

Lizzie, widow of the of the late rugby player Danny Jones, has been recognised for her life-saving work following the death of her husband from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Danny was just 29 when he collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrest while playing rugby and Lizzie has since campaigned for all rugby league division players to be able to have heart screening.

Through her charity the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund, she aims to get defibrillators into all grass roots rugby clubs across the country, with eventually every sporting venue, school and community centre to have them.

Lizzie will sing "Land of Hope and Glory' after the gala has been declared open by dance choreographer and teacher Bazz Robson at noon. There will also be entertainment from other singers, fairground rides and a number of stalls at the village's 57th annual gala.
