New statue of former Poet Laureate Ted Hughes to be unveiled in Doncaster

A new statue of former Poet Laureate Ted Hughes will be unveiled in Doncaster today.

It comes ahead of the beginning of the three-day Ted Hughes festival which is taking place in Mexborough.

The statue commissioned by funding partners, Arts Council, Dearne Valley Landscape Partnership, Right Up Our Street and Mexborough Business Centre, and has been created by renowned artist Jane Robbins.

Local MP Ed Miliband will officially unveiling the statue.

Hughes, who was born in Mytholmroyd was Poet Laureate for 14 years - from 1984 until his death in 1998. He also lived in Mexborough between 1938 to 1951.
