Anniversary of MP Jo Cox's murder being marked nationwide with The Great Get Together
More than 100,000 events are expected to take place as the nation comes together to mark the first anniversary of the murder of Jo Cox MP.
Communities throughout her home county in particular will stage thousands of events from today until Sunday for The Great Get Together in her honour.
Her family and the Jo Cox Foundation have teamed up with The Big Lunch to create the event, which will be the biggest of its kind since the Diamond Jubilee.
Jo's husband Brendan Cox said the event taps into the national mood of a "desire for unity and togetherness" in the wake of tragic events over recent weeks and months.
The Great Get Together kicks off today with events in Jo's former constituency of Batley and Spen and will continue through the weekend, culminating in Big Lunches across the UK and concluding with a huge party in the Olympic Park on June 18th.
Events taking place in Yorkshire include an English Heritage celebration at Brodsworth Hall near Doncaster on Saturday, and a huge community Big Lunch in Roundhay.
On Sunday, Artworks Creative Communities will be holding a family Big Lunar Lunch in Bradford, where attendees will take part in gardening activities.
