West Yorkshire Police help seize 88 firearms in operation
Officers from five different forces including West Yorkshire seized 88 firearms and arrested four people in a proactive operation across England.
Police from the West Yorkshire, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside carried out the operation on Tuesday 6 June under the command of the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Organised Crime unit.
In Bradford police stopped a car on Old Road and arrested the 49-year-old occupant on suspicion of conspiracy to supply prohibited weapons. Police then searched a house and business premises within the city and a further 59 firearms were recovered.
A vehicle was also stopped on the A38 in the West Midlands area and two people aged 45 and 37 were arrested on suspicion of possessing prohibited weapons. Six handguns were recovered.
A further vehicle was stopped in Sheffield on Meadowhall Road and a male aged 24 was arrested on suspicion of possessing a prohibited weapon. Two handguns were recovered.
In addition to this a vehicle was recovered in the Rochdale area and three handguns seized.
All four people arrested (all males) were released pending further enquiries.
Armed officers were used during the operation.
