'We deserved it': Emmerdale wins best soap award at BAFTAs

The cast and crew of Emmerdale are celebrating this morning after being named Best Soap at the BAFTAs last night.

The show – filmed at ITV Yorkshire – saw off competition from Eastenders, Casualty and Hollyoaks to take one of the most prestigious titles in the industry.

Series producer Ian MacLeod said: "I think we've had a fantastically goodyear...I would be lying if I said I didn't think we deserved it.

"Everyone on the screen and behind the scenes has worked extremely hard so I am thrilled by it."

The ceremony, held at Royal Festival Hall on London's Southbank, was hosted by Sue Perkins and attended by British TV's biggest stars.
