Elderly woman hit with hammer in Cleckheaton robbery
Police are appealing for information after an elderly woman was hit with a hammer during a robber in Cleckheaton.
Kirklees CID would like to speak to any witnesses regarding the incident on the Spen Valley Greenway at Cleckheaton at about 2.20pm yesterday.
It took place after the victim, a 76-year-old woman- was approached from behind while walking onto the Greenway after passing the Tesco Supermarket.
She was struck to the back of the head with a hammer by the suspect who then made off with her purse.
The 76-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and remained there overnight. The injury is not described as life threatening.
A number of enquiries are ongoing today to trace the suspect who is described as a white man, slim, aged around 60, wearing a woolly bobble hat and glasses.
