Sheffield man, 21, remanded on terror charge

A 21-year-old man from Sheffield who allegedly planned to join friends who had left the UK for Syria has appeared in court.

Khalil Maher, from Wilfred Close, was arrested at Heathrow Airport by North-East counter-terrorism officers on April 18th.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court before district judge John Zani charged with preparing to commit acts of terrorism or to assist others in committing such acts.

The court heard his indicated plea was not guilty. He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on May 19th.
