Inspector Morse author Colin Dexter dies aged 86
Colin Dexter, the Lincolnshire-born author of the Inspector Morse novels has died aged 86.
Mr Dexter, who grew up and went to school in Stamford, passed away at his home in Oxford.
He wrote 13 Inspector Morse novels which were the inspiration for ITV's "Morse" series, starring John Thaw and Kevin Whately. The series ran from 1987 to 2000.
Yorkshire Television's "Tonight" programme invited Mr Dexter to visit his old school in 1996, where he spoke to presenter Steve Le Fevre.
