Memorial unveiled to honour murdered mother and children

A memorial has been unveiled to a mother and her two children who were found murdered in their own home at Allerton Bywater near Castleford almost a year ago.

It is thought Gerry Newman and her children were killed by her estranged husband who then took his own life.

Around 40 friends and neighbours gathered today at Allerton Bywater's Millenium village for the dedication of a plaque and a bench in memory of the family.

The memorial bench is situated at what the parish council hope will become a focal point for the village.

Flowers came today from Gerry's workmates at the Wilco store in Castelford where she was the manager.

A wreath each for Gerry, Shannon and Shane.
