M62 shooting inquest: Firearm found in front passenger footwell

An inquest into the police shooting of a man near the M62 motorway has heard that officers found a firearm in the front passenger footwell of the vehicle in which he was travelling.

Yassar Yaqub, 28, was shot dead during a police incident at Ainley Top on Monday evening.

An inquest was opened and adjourned in a three-minute hearing at Bradford Coroner's Court this morning.

In court, Mr Yaqub was described as a single man, who was an Office Clerk by profession.

Coroner Martin Fleming was told how the 28-year-old was shot through the windscreen of an Audi car after a "hard stop" on the slip road.

The court was told a firearm was found in the front passenger footwell of the vehicle.

Coroner's officer Chris Dalby told the hearing Mr Yaqub was shot by an officer "in the execution of his duty".

The inquest was adjourned until 31st March.
