Mob filmed damaging police car during protest over fatal police shooting on M62
Footage has emerged of a group of men attacking a police car during a protest over the fatal shooting of a Huddersfield man on the M62.
In the video, demonstrators – many with their faces covered – drape banners over the marked car.
At least two of them then start kicking the car, causing the wing mirror to break off and damaging the bodywork.
The "spontaneous protest" was held after the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Yassar Yaqub by police during a pre-planned firearms operation on Monday night.
West Yorkshire Police, who had earlier said that there was "minimal disorder" at the protest and no arrests, said enquiries were continuing into the demonstration, which caused disruption to traffic in the Leeds Road area.
In a statement the force said: "The majority of those who attended were peaceful in manner, however a small number engaged in disorder which caused damage to a number of vehicles, both police and civilian.
"There were no injuries.
"We would ask anyone with any footage which may help this investigation to contact the police, so further enquiries can be carried out.
"Local officers will continue to work with partners and to provide reassurance to members of the community."
