Injury forces Guy Martin to pull out of latest world record attempt
Motorbike racer and television presenter Guy Martin has said he needs to "listen to my body more" after injury forced him to pull out of a world record attempt for the fastest cycle around the British coast.
Martin, who is originally from Grimsby, cycled around 800 miles in less than five days before he decided to cancel the attempt due to an injury to his Achilles tendon.
The 4,802-mile pedal-powered ride was the latest world record attempt by the 35-year-old TT star, who has set speed records in a variety of human and engine-powered vehicles.
He hoped to beat the current 22-day record by completing the distance in just 20 days.
In a statement on his website, Martin said: "Well, it's not gone quite to plan."
He continued:
Martin said he has cycled more than 11,000 miles this year, including the Tour Divide in America and his daily commute to his job as a truck mechanic.
He has already set world records for fastest speed on a gravity-powered snow sled, fastest speed in a soap box and highest speed on a wall of death.
Earlier this year, he attempted to break the two-wheeled world land speed record in a purpose-built 400mph Triumph motorcycle, but was thwarted by conditions on the course at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
Martin also cancelled a world record attempt at Lincoln's Brayford Pool because of problems with weeds.
The world record for fastest ride around the coast of Great Britain is held byNick Sanders, who completed the distance in 22 days in 1984.
