Your chance to go behind bars at Barnsley police station
The public are being invited to put themselves behind bars – after work finished on a new police custody suite in Barnsley.
South Yorkshire Police said the cells will open for their "usual customers" in November but the force is holding an open day on Wednesday to let people see the cells, interview rooms and other parts of the new facility.
Chief Superintendent Tim Innes said: “The new custody suite and enquiry desk are long overdue. It’s part of a £19million project to deliver new custody facilities for Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley and replaces the old suites that were no longer fit for purpose. They are great facilities and provide much improved conditions for staff and visitors.”
