Police officers to wear body cams in West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire Police will spend £2m kitting out their officers with vest mounted cameras.

The force claim it will make the vulnerable feel safer, along with helping prosecutors to gather evidence and increase the number of guilty pleas in court.

Following a recent pilot of the devices in the Bradford District, a phased roll out will now begin.

Assistant Chief Constable, Andy Battle is leading the work and says:

"These devices will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the future of policing and members of the public can expect to see them routinely worn as part of our daily business."

There are warnings from civil liberties groups that the on-board cameras are an invasion of people's privacy
