Uncensored report into Battle of Orgreave will not be published
A full, uncensored report into allegations of police misconduct at the so-called Battle of Orgreave will not be published, the police watchdog has ruled.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission had been considering releasing an unredacted version of a report which shows apparent links between the actions of South Yorkshire Police following clashes with striking miners in 1984 and those used after the Hillsborough disaster five years later.
But it said the Crown Prosecution Service had advised publishing the full review into the actions of the force may prejudice criminal investigations into the Hillsborough disaster.
A redacted copy was released last year.
Thousands of miners and police officers clashed at the Orgreave coking plant near Rotherham in June 1984.
Theresa May had been facing growing calls from campaigners for a full public inquiry into the incident during her time as home secretary.
Michael Mansfield QC, the barrister who represented Orgreave miners who were accused of rioting in prosecutions which later collapsed, said there were good reasons why the report should not be published.
