Hundreds attend multi-faith gathering at Birstall market for Jo Cox

Exactly one week on from the killing of the MP Jo Cox a multi-faith gathering has been taking place in Birstall this lunchtime near the spot where she was stabbed and shot.

Ms Cox was fatally injured outside the village library and tributes to her placed around a nearby statue have grown over the last seven days to form a carpet of thousands of flowers, messages and balloons.

Hundreds joined hands

Those in attendance ringed the makeshift memorial for moments of silence, hymns and eulogies led by the vicar of St Peter's Church, the Reverend Paul Knight.
