Sheffield Predators announce name change to Sheffield Giants

The Sheffield Predators American Football Club will change its name to Sheffield Giants from the 2017 season.

The new name was chosen by the club after over 2,000 people participated in a public vote last month.

After it received over 180 different suggestions for a new name from the public, the club made a final shortlist from which ‘Giants’ emerged a clear winner.

The club decided to change its name after recent prosecutions in South Yorkshire, widely reported in the media and entirely unconnected with the club, created negative associations with its chosen identity.

Preparations are underway to design a new logo and colour scheme for the club’s 2017 kit, which will be worn by all teams including Youth, Adult Contact and Flag.

The Club is among the UK’s top dozen American Football teams.
