Second row Whetton joins Yorkshire Carnegie

Yorkshire Carnegie have added second rower Jack Whetton to their squad for the 2015-16 season after the New Zealander agreed a two year deal with the club.

Whetton, 24, is the son of All Blacks legend Gary Whetton, who played 58 Tests for the All Blacks and captained the side 15 times, while his uncle - and Gary's twin - Alan won 65 caps as a flanker.

The Auckland-born lock played for the Auckland ITM Cup team in 2013. A highly rated youngster he was a member of the 2012 Grammar Carlton team that won the Gallaher Shield. He was schooled at Rosmini College and played two years of club rugby in North Harbour, playing every match in his last season, before moving to Auckland.

The two metre tall second row spent the first half of 2014 in Canberra with the ACT Brumbies for the Super Rugby season, picking up six caps. The following season he moved to England to join Leicester and made five appearances for the Tigers including two appearances as a replacement in the Aviva Premiership in wins at London Irish and at Welford Road against Sale Sharks.

Last season, he followed in his father's footsteps to play in France. His dad won a Championship with Castres in 1993 and Jack as impressed this year playing for USON Nevers in the Federale 1 division, the third division of rugby in France.
