Hundreds gather in North Yorkshire fracking protest

Hundreds gather in protest outside a meeting which will decide if the country's first fracking is approved in North Yorkshire.

Last week planning officers recommended permission should be granted to Third Energy to drill for shale gas on the edge of Kirby Misperton.

North Yorkshire Police have issued a statement saying they will take action against anyone who protests unlawfully.

Superintendent Dave Hannan, Head of Specialist Operations at North Yorkshire Police said: "The police have a duty to facilitate lawful protest. This involves liaising with all sides of the issue, working with local authority partners to minimise disruption to residents and businesses, and generally keeping everyone safe."
