Scunthorpe General Hospital has been rated as inadequate following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

A backlog of outpatients, risks to the safety of patients with mental health conditions, and a lack of standardised procedures for managing controlled drugs in patients’ homes, were among the issues raised by inspectors.

The report rates Goole hospital as ‘good’, while Grimsby hospital ‘requires improvement’. Overall, the services provided by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust were found to 'require improvement.'

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust says it has already taken steps to address the issues.

But officials added that staffing levels continue to be an issue.

The Trust received a ‘good’ rating for the ‘caring’ domain across all its hospitals, and an overall ‘good’ for all its maternity services.

The inspection team highlighted a number of areas of ‘outstanding’ practice, including dental services and the ‘frail elderly assessment and support team’. It singled out Rachel Greenbeck, who has the lead for dementia and learning disabilities, as a 'highly motivated and compassionate quality matron'.
