Doncaster Belles prepare for first game back in the top flight
Doncaster Belles are preparing for their first game back amongst the elite of women's football. Tonight they take on current league and cup holders Chelsea, a side who beat the Belles 4-1 in the FA Cup last weekend.
Historically the Belles are one of the most successful teams in the country. They dominated the women's game in the early 90s, winning two league and cup doubles.
In 2013, much to the fans' annoyance, the club were demoted to the second tier following a league restructuring.
However, last season they won promotion back to the top flight and have made some shrewd new signings in the close season, including England international Natasha Dowie and Doncaster-born Jess Sigsworth.
For the first time in their history 10 of Doncaster's players are now full time professionals and with a new purpose built training facility in the pipeline, the future looks bright for the Belles.
