Parents and teachers fighting to save their school in Whitby from closure have attracted the support of one if its most well-known former students.

Singer-songwriter Alistair Griffin, who wrote the official song for the Yorkshire leg of the Tour de France, has worked with pupils at Eskdale School to record a song and video in support of the fight against plans to close the site.

North Yorkshire County Council is consulting on plans that could see the school effectively closed as it merges with the town's other secondary Caedmon College by September 2017.

Last night 200 people turned out for the premiere of Alistair's campaign video which features Alistair and the choir performing Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know':

North Yorkshire County Council says all options remain open and the closure is not a done deal. Two consultation meetings are to take place at Whitby Pavilion on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm and they insist all options remain on the table despite the proposed merger of Eskdale School with nearby Caedmon College, which could result in the closure of the Eskdale site by September 2017.

The consultation over the future of Eskdale School runs until the start of April but a final decision over what happens to the school may not be made until June.
