Jon's blog: What an honour to be on the Flying Scotsman's homeward run

What an honour it was to be aboard Flying Scotsman as she steamed homeward to Yorkshire.

It was truly amazing how many people came out to wave to her as she passed by, it must have run into the hundreds of thousands.

School children, factory workers and railway workers stopped what they were doing to salute Doncaster's finest.

Cars jammed the roads as people came out to watch her steam by.

Doncaster station platform was three or four deep, and York station resembled the arrival of a world superstar as crowds jostled to catch a glimpse.

A truly memorable day.
