Floods leave poster legacy in Hebden Bridge cafe
The Boxing Day floods have left behind an interesting legacy at the Deli Cafe in Hebden Bridge.
Workmen have pulled back ruined boarding to reveal a wall full of posters which have not been seen since they were put in back in 1882.
It is thought the wall was once the gable end of the neighbouring property - fly posters used it to advertise their events.Local historian Diana Monahan has made a study of the posters. One advertises a very unusual by -election.
Other posters invite people to local churches to come along and see the star preachers of the day. Whit weekend was a big occasion for them.
The proprietor at the Deli is looking forward to getting back in business, locals are hoping the posters can be preserved to give visitors a little food for thought.
