Mablethorpe secondary school to close in August

Campaigners outside Monk's Dyke Tennyson College Credit: ITV Yorkshire

Mablethorpe's only secondary school is to close at the end of August - despite opposition from parents and a petition with more than 8000 signatures.

Parents at Monks Dyke Tennyson College are now being offered the opportunity to send their children to the school's other campus in Louth. But many aren't keen on having to make the 16-mile journey.

Lincolnshire County council says it's a decision that's not been taken lightly - but that falling pupil numbers and a huge deficit at the school have left it with no choice.

The council have promised to hold the land for a year, while discussions continue about the possible creation of a free school on the site.
