Whitby wakes up after flash floods hit the town
Water levels are receding in Whitby this morning, after flash floods threatened to cut off the town last night.
Fire crews responded to eleven areas of flooding in the Whitby and Sandsend area between 6pm and 11pm last night.
Sandbags were deployed to properties in the town including the harbour-side Church Street.
Major roads have now reopened, but a couple of minor road closures remain in place.
Police are asking residents to take care and not enter flood water.
