This was the scene when a school bus became stuck in flood water between Tollerton and Newton-on-Ouse this morning.

Dramatic pictures show how children clung on as water flooded into the bus, which became stuck due to the flooded New Parks Beck.

Around thirty children travelling to Easingwold School were rescued from the bus by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

15-year-old Grace Abbott was one of the 11- to 18-year-olds on board.

She said the bus started floating when it drove into the water, and children smashed the window to try to get out. Given their uncertainty as to how fast the water was flowing, they decided to stay on the bus before being rescued by fire crews around 15 minutes later.
