Runners' favourite soundtracks revealed

The secret to pushing your workout further could be as simple as having the right playlist, new research has revealed.

The study, carried out by charity event organisers Run For All, found that 40% of people would run further than their planned route if they hadn’t reached their favourite song on the playlist. It also discovered that Brits love to listen to rock music while running, despite the majority of running albums relying heavily on electro music.

Rock came out as the favourite with 41% of the vote, compared to 38% who chose pop music. Up-tempo house/electro took the lowest number of the votes (16%).

This goes against the track lists of running albums currently on sale, which are dominated by house and electro music such as ‘Running Trax 2015’ and songs like ‘Sigma - Nobody to Love’ and ‘Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne - Real Love’.

It was this lack of representation on the running album market that prompted Run For All to create their own ultimate rock workout playlist based on what people said was their favourite running song of all time.

The playlist includes:

  • MC Joe & The Vanillas - Eye of the Tiger

  • Queen - Don't Stop Me Now

  • Led Zeppelin - Kashmir

  • Stone Roses - She Bangs the Drums

  • Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA

  • Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames

  • Europe - The Final Countdown

  • Iron Maiden - Aces High

  • Foo Fighter - Outside

  • AC/DC - Highway to Hell

Run For All is the organisation behind the Yorkshire Marathon, the Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield, the Leeds Half Marathon and the Leeds, York, Hull and Lincoln 10Ks.
