Protest at police station over Dangerous Dogs Act
Campaigners held a protest at Leeds Police Station today - demanding a change in the Dangerous Dog Law.
Currently if dogs fit within a certain measurement they can be deemed as 'dangerous', and taken from their owner, who has to go through the court system to get the dog back.
Recently, a dog found in Horsforth Park was picked up by police, who assessed it and deemed him to be of a 'dangerous' type.
More than 8000 people signed a petition, the owner - who had lost the dog, was eventually found. If the owner had not been found, the dog would have been destroyed.
Now, the owner will have to go through the court system to try to get him back.
Lauren Thomas, part of 'Murphy's Army', said: 'dogs cannot be deemed as dangerous just because of a measurement. We hope it's a happy ending for this dog but it isn't for many others.'
