Police cuts force town to cancel Remembrance Day Parade

A branch of the Royal British Legion in South Yorkshire have been forced to cancel their Remembrance Day Parade, due to their local police force being unable to afford to staff the event.

The cancellation marks the first time since World War II that the village of Hoyland, near Barnsley will be unable to hold the parade.

South Yorkshire Police say that cuts mean they can only afford to provide one officer, instead of the three that are needed, to marshall the event.

The MP for Barnsley East, Michael Dugher, described the cancellation as a 'disgrace' and is calling on the Home Office and South Yorkshire Police to come up with a solution:
