The news of Neil Aspin's dismissal as manager of FC Halifax Town after only 10 games of the season has come as a shock to most Shaymen.

Detractors will argue the rot has been setting in with a woeful win tally and certain suspicious tactical decisions since February. However, the lack of loyalty and support shown to a man who has guided the club from the bottom to the top of non-league in record time is disheartening to say the least.

Neil Aspin was the club during the rebirth and rise of FCHT and crafted the careers of some fantastic rough diamonds including Barnsley's Marc Roberts, Millwall's Lee Gregory and of course England International Jamie Vardy. The sales of the latter two club legends funded further on-field investment during a time when the board could not put together a viable commercial plan to push the club forward or bring new blood to the stands. It appears no matter the achievements, no manager is immune from football's cut throat short-termism and Neil Aspin has fallen foul of this.

The fans' faith in the board is already dwindling after failing to hold on to popular players in the summer and missing out on potential targets to add to the ranks. The club now find themselves managerless and with a playing staff suffering from some serious confidence issues and quality deficiencies in key areas.

For today, Shaymen fans will mourn the loss and celebrate the triumphs of the lord and saviour Neil Aspin but also look with trepidation to a future that hopefully does not include relegation and another fall through the trapdoor of non-league.
