#EastmeetsWest Challenge Cup final match report
Hull Kingston Rovers 0 - 50 Leeds Rhinos
The Leeds Rhinos made it back to back Challenge Cup wins after a one-sided Wembley triumph over Hull Kingston Rovers in front of 80,140 fans an afternoon when records tumbled. The final score of 50-0 was the biggest winning margin in Challenge Cup history and Tom Briscoe became the first player to score 5 tries in a Challenge Cup final.
Leeds controversially made the early breakthrough when Jamie Peacock, playing his last Challenge Cup game for the Rhinos before ironicallyjoining Rovers next year as football manager, powered over beforeappearing to drop the ball. However on video evidence it showed thatthe ball bounced off Peacock's back and Brett Delaney was hand togobble up the chance.
The favourites then extended their lead when Danny McGuire went overand the ever reliable Kevin Sinfield kicked the conversion.
And it wasn't long before the Rhinos fans were celebrating again.Former Hull FC favourite Tom Briscoe finding a way through Rovers'porous defence to make it 16-0. For once Sinfield's right boot wasn'tit's reliable self as his kick rebounded off the post.
The rest of the first half went off without much incident but the Rhinos begun the second half in the same vain as they did the first. Briscoe scored his second try of the afternoon after intercepting a cross field kick and running almost the entire length of the field.
Rovers full-back Kieran Dixon was guilty of a number of handling errors as his team toiled away but to no avail.
But Leeds were showing no mercy and despite a cautionary glance from the video referee Brad Singleton went over and Sinfield converted to extend the Rhinos lead to 28-0.
With 15 minutes left the game was effectively settled when Briscoe grabbed his hat-trick try, which led to some Rovers fans heading for the exits and the long journey back up the M1.
But Leeds weren't done yet - Kallum Watkins played in Rob Burrow to leave the defence in his wake and then it was Briscoe's turn to write his name into the record books. He scored his fourth and fifth of the afternoon to surpass the previous record of 4 tries in a Challenge Cup final set by Leroy Rivett for the Rhinos in the 99 final.
Hull KR's first Challenge Cup final in 29 years will not be one to look back on fondly, but for the Rhinos, their dominance of the sport continues.
